Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

Q: Is the Chico Animal Shelter the same as the Butte Humane Society?

A: No.  The Chico Animal Shelter is the City owned facility located at 2579 Fair St. and is run by the City of Chico  The facility was originally built in 1956, and the Butte Humane Society (BHS) ran the shelter under contract for the City from 1986 - 2012.  In 2012 the City resumed shelter operations with BHS as the City's adoption partner.  While BHS houses their adoptable dogs at the Chico Animal Shelter, they are a separate organization and run a cat adoption center and spay/neuter clinic at a separate location.
