Animal Control is responsible for enforcing all City animal related ordinances and state laws, including picking up dogs running at large and quarantining animals for Rabies observation.

The Chico Animal Shelter houses and cares for all stray dogs found within Chico city limits.  These animals may have been picked up by Chico Animal Control, or brought in by a concerned citizen.  The Chico Animal Shelter also takes unwanted dogs from owners residing within Chico city limits on a space available basis.  The shelter maintains a waiting list for dogs needing to be surrendered.

If you are missing a pet please check our Stray Animals tab for pictures of our current stray animals.
We encourage you to file a lost pet report HERE. To reclaim your lost pet, please call 530-894-5630. If you reach the voicemail please leave a message and we will call you back!
