What we do:
The City of Chico Animal Shelter is owned by the City of Chico and operated by the City of Chico Police Department under Animal Services.
Animal Services is responsible for enforcing all City animal related ordinances and state laws, including picking up dogs running at large and quarantining animals for Rabies observation.
The Chico Animal Shelter houses and cares for all stray dogs found within Chico city limits. These animals may have been picked up by Chico Animal Control, or brought in by a concerned citizen. The Chico Animal Shelter also takes unwanted dogs from owners residing within Chico city limits on a space available basis. The shelter maintains a waiting list for dogs needing to be surrendered. Chico Animal Services is no longer accepting surrendered cats. See our Surrendering Pets tab for more information on finding a home for your pet and surrendering your dog.

If you live in the unincorporated areas of Chico, please contact Butte County Animal Control (530) 891-2907 or the Northwest SPCA (530) 533-7636 for information about stray or unwanted animals.
If you have lost a pet, we encourage you to come in person to the Chico Animal Shelter to look for your missing pet, look through the found logs, and file a lost pet report. In additon, you can post a lost or found pet on our Pet Message Board.

Hours:The Chico Animal Shelter is open seven days a week, and late two nights a week to make it easier to find your pet.
